Solace House is on a bus
line and centrally located for families throughout the
Kansas City metropolitan area. We are located one mile
north of Ward Parkway Mall on the west side of State
Line Road within the State Line Executive Office Park.
Solace House is designed to be a caring place where
children and their families can relax, listen, share,
and heal. Support group rooms and group placement are
determined according to the developmental stages of
children and take into account the needs of the entire
family.

The
Jungle Room provides lots of room for play therapy
for children ages 3 & 4. This room is playful thanks
to mural friends including a smiling giraffe, a curious monkey,
and inquisitive zebras who welcome participants into a jungle
environment that is nurturing and safe. |
 |
The Sky Room is used by children ages 5 to 8 where
support groups utilize discussions and activities based
on the symbolic nature of rainbows, stars, balloons,
kites, day and evening, and the seasons. Young children
have many opportunities to remember loved ones say goodbye
in ways that they can understand. Children use art and
music to work through thoughts, feelings,
and behaviors related to their unique experiences with
death.

The Sea Room is used by children ages 9 to 12 and
utilizes tranquil ocean sounds as the backdrop to activities
including art, writing, music, drama, and lots of peer
discussions that assist in understanding the “grief
voyage”. Sea Room participants learn about feelings
such as anger, fear, and guilt while also learning how
to celebrate the joy and hope that can still be found
in life. Children are given permission to pursue their
dreams and enjoy life’s activities while also
learning to honor and remember the loved one who has
died.

The Land Room was specifically designed for teens
and brings the outdoors inside with its earth colors,
rustic furniture, and discussions related to emotional,
physical and social survival following the death of
loved one. Teen participants discover more about their
place in the world when their world has dramatically
changed, and much of the learning occurs with the help
of other understanding teens who share common experiences.
Teens learn how to communicate with their friends and
family while honoring the positive, inspired direction
that they can take in life from their experience.

The Harbor Room is used primarily for adult support
group meetings and also serves as the community room
for all families and Solace House guests. This refuge
within Solace House conveys to adults that it is okay,
and necessary, to practice self-care in the midst of
being responsible for the overall management of the
family. Adults are given the opportunity to express
theirs emotions, share their unique experiences with
others, and obtain guidance in
how to best support their grieving children.

The Garden Room is used by adults and by very young
children at other times. This inspirational space symbolizes
the growth that can gradually evolve from loss experiences
although this growth may not be apparent for some time.
Children and adults benefit from seeing the hope in
others who courageously survive tragedy. This room symbolizes
that healing is possible with the help of those who
care.
